ARCHITECT: Stan Sackley.

The original owners commissioned Sackley to design their custom home in Canyon Country Club. This 3,200-square-foot house contains only one bedroom, as per the specs from the owners.

Most salient are the five atriums throughout the house, particularly in the kitchen and portico.

The house today is essentially the same as it was when completed. It is speculated that Sackley was influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's use of compressing ceiling heights and then releasing them into higher, grander living room areas.

In a mild panic, I obliged and distinctly remember darting straight to the store, ripping open the package, and taking the vitamin while still standing in the pill aisle.

What I was not aware of at the time is that spina bifida occurs within three to four weeks after conception; when I started my prenatal vitamin regimen, I was already in week five of pregnancy! Thankfully, my pre-pregnancy diet included a steady routine of high-folate foods such as Brussels sprouts and lentils, so my personal need for folic acid supplementation through a multivitamin happened to be unnecessary. I continued to take my prenatal vitamins for the other nutrients they contain and soon became constipated on a very regular basis. I had heard about pregnancy constipation so I just assumed it was a normal change my body was going through and that I would just have to deal with it. Coincidentally, it was at this time that I really started to research my prenatal vitamins as I was curious about exactly what I was putting into my body every day since I’m not normally one who takes vitamins or medications. After learning about the implications of synthetic folic acid versus naturally occurring folate, I began to wonder how the synthetic forms of other nutrients found in the pills may be affecting me.
