Decorating for the Fourth of July
When celebrating the grand ole Fourth we’re always drawn to a theme of stars and stripes. It’s a good excuse to dress up our homes in a color and design scheme we might not use at any other time of year. It’s fun to set a table for a July Fourth celebration, because you don’t have to rack your brain for a creative idea. The color scheme has already been established and it’s easy to do. It’s even permissible to use disposable items.
Unusual Tablecover
Don’t be afraid to use a quilt as a tablecover. Quilts were meant to be used and washed over and over again. They just get softer and better-looking with use.
You can find inexpensive new quilts in all sizes and colors. You might find one in a red, white, and blue theme for this holiday. Mine is made of homespun fabric, which is heavier than other cotton material. The colors are navy, cranberry and white plaids. So while it carries the red, white, and blue theme, the colors are not quite so bright. After the holiday it makes a perfect twin bed cover. If you don’t have a quilt, consider covering your table with a printed fabric in these colors.
Sheets Are Fabulous for Tablecovers
Fieldcrest Cannon offers a sheet design of red and white bold stripes that would make a perfect tablecloth. After your party, wash it and use it on your bed with a soft white cotton blanket. For the table fill a basket with delicate blue lobelia plants and use it as a centerpiece on the red-and-white-striped sheet/tablecloth. The periwinkle color of the flowers surrounded by the bright green lacy stems and leaves is a sensational look. I have a basket filled with this plant on my blue shop door and everyone comments on how beautiful it is. It’s a common, inexpensive plant available in most garden centers.
