Room Designs For Small Living Rooms
Set the Stage with Floors
CHOOSING a floor covering used to be a fairly academic process. One purchased wall-to-wall carpeting in whatever texture and coloring suited one’s taste and color scheme. Floors were thus covered but were comparatively bland and contributed very little vitality to the specific setting.
Today the floor treatment can be and often is the focal point of a room’s decoration. And because of this interest in distinctive floor design, manufacturers of both soft and smooth surface floor coverings, continue to create fresh and different styles each season.
There is enormous emphasis on variety in accent and area rugs. Designs run the gamut from vigorous geometries to softly-etched florals, and are often inventive and unexpected interpretations of conventional motifs. Fanciful colorations and lavish textures are in order. Also noted is the new interest in Oriental rugs as a room accent—especially effective in contemporary settings.
There is a constant search for new ideas in vinyl floorings as two of the pages here illustrate. Attractive textures, unusual stylized patterns as well as border designs, and spectacular design effects with solid vinyl, are among these many exciting floor styles.
