Recipe for Dinner
4 brown baps, split into halves A little butter or margarine 10 ml/2 tsp dried mixed herbs
Spread the baps with a little butter or margarine and sprinkle with the mixed herbs. Place under a hot grill (broiler) for 2 minutes until just browned. Serve with soup or light lunches.
Brown Garlic Bread
1 brown Vienna loaf
1 garlic clove, crushed or 2.5 ml/10 tsp garlic powder 50 g/2 oz/1/2 cup butter or margarine Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2.5 ml/1/2 tsp lemon juice
Slice the loaf diagonally into 2 cm/1 in slices, but not right through the base. Mix the crushed garlic or garlic powder with the butter or margarine, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Spread each slice of bread with the mixture. Reshape the loaf and wrap in foil, sealing the ends firmly. Heat through in a preheated oven at 200°C/400°F/gas mark 6 for 15 minutes. Serve in a long bread basket, still wrapped in the foil to keep it warm.
