Rainbow Pools installed the 9 by 3.2 metre rectangular swimming-pool with computerized water purification system, underwater lights and power jetstream unit, and were also responsible for the Swiss-engineered heat-retention automatic cover. Reconstituted stone columns from Voustone add a classical flavour to the design, which also incorporates gymnasium, spa bath, steam units and changing-rooms, seating-area and bar. Roof-top oasis Situated high up on the sixth floor of the Hotel le Bristol, in the rue du Faubourg St. Honore, Paris, this unusual swimming-pool was conceived and designed by Professor Caisar Pinnau, architect and renowned yacht designer, whose clients include the Niarchos and Onassis families. With beautiful teak surrounds and cabin-like windows, the room evokes thoughts of the advance of a packet boat heading for the Riviera. On the end wall, a spectacular trompe Ioeil, painted by Rudel, depicts a scene of holidaymakers on the bows of a boat looking out towards the Bristols sister hotel, Hotel du Cap dAntibes Eden Roc on the Cote dAzur. The swimming-pool itself measures 11×5 metres and is covered by a ceiling painted to resemble a canvas awning. In summer, the bay windows open onto a solarium with spectacular views looking over the rooftops of Paris towards the Sacre Coeur. Changing-rooms and sauna are housed near the entrance. Use of the swimming-pool and its facilities is reserved exclusively for hotel guests as a place in which to relax away from business meetings and sightseeing excursions. CHRISTOPHER BARRY and a Rosa Bobby James was planted which scrambled through an enormous yew tree. It made a lovely place for shade-loving plants, with masses of Solomons seal and Smilacina racemosa which you do not often see. Plants that have good foliage were great favourites, as they give such good value over a long season, and some all the year round.
