Other accessories in the flat are smaller but equally stunning. There is much gilt and ormolu, painted metal and wonderful pieces of pottery. Sue and Andy are keen on contemporary ceramics, too – many of the unusual lamp bases, mirrors and picture frames that decorate the flat are by design duo Verburg and Brownfield, and ceramicist Nick Ward’s tactile vases are everywhere. Collecting pottery and glass is, in fact, a passion of Sue’s, as the display cabinet in the sitting room and a cupboard in the kitchen show. The selection ranges from elegantly fragile coffee cups decorated with gold handles, FINE DINING COOKING EQUIPMENT to rough and ethnic earthenware mugs and plates found at a Cornish pottery. Many of the paintings that hang on the walls are, of course, by Sue: her original drawings for the animal calendar and for Trumpet Design, the greetings card company she set up four years ago with Andy and her brother-in-law. Andy and Sue have poured an enormous amount of enthusiasm and hard work into their flat. FINE DINING COOKING EQUIPMENT It manages to be elegantly chic and fashionably hip at the same time. And it’s all their own work, from the basic plumbing and wiring to the finishing touches such as the hand-stencilling on the bedroom wails. Their DIY days now behind them, they can enjoy with justifiable satisfaction their stylish flat and their free weekends.
