As the flat is split over three floors, its more like being in a house. They adored the proportions of the rooms and windows, and also the original staircase that rises alongside the main window at the front of the flat. The kitchen, bathroom, sitting room and two bedrooms are all on the next floor up, with Sues studio and office on the top floor. Refurbishing and decorating the flat was a real labour of love. They immediately ripped down the sixties pop art wallpaper, lots of boxey built-in cupboards and the panels that were covering the original doors. We didnt buy any furniture until we found exactly the right pieces, Sue recalls. We slept on a mattress on the floor and ate all our meals using the top of the fridge as a table.
