During the process of refurbishing the set of dining-chairs, the restorer discovered beneath the heavy black and gold paint a delight- ful display of painted flowers on a cream background, just the finishing touch the room needed. The breakfast room is in the glazed extension. Mirrored cupboard-doors give the illusion of extra space and light NEAR BANBURY the picturesque house of Thorpe Mandeville Court, once a seventeenth-century rectory, with its grey stone walls, gables and mullioned windows, looks over a much-loved garden full of interest and variety. Changes of level and flights of steps give it a very special character, and some very special plants quickly tell the visitor that the garden was planted by someone who knew what they were about.
